Since lilacs from the Parfum de Nature brand have been cultivated in pots and have a firm root ball you can plant them throughout the year. Make a spacious planting hole that is at least twice as wide and 1.5 times as deep as the root ball. Loosen the soil at the base of the plant hole so that newly formed roots can easily penetrate and continue growing and so that excessive water doesn’t remain in the plant hole.

to bear in mind when planting
- Never plant in very wet conditions, this could lead to structural rotting of the soil.
- Mix compost with the soil in the plant hole and the soil you removed from the hole.
- Remove the pot from the root ball and loosen the outer root a little, with a hand-held rake for example, so the roots make better contact with the soil.
- Plant the lilac so that the top of the root ball is at ground level (border soil/air) then press down the soil firmly and water well.
- In dry soils, we recommend that you add a layer of mulch (organic material) of +/- 5 cm. Such a layer ensures that the soil doesn’t dry out as readily due to sun and wind. Lilacs naturally form shallow and wide roots so will greatly appreciate this protective layer. In wetter soils, do not add mulch, but use a rake to make the soil a bit rounded around the shrub so that excessive water can drain away from the shrub. In the winter, with soils having extremely high water levels, we recommend that you first make the soil around the planting hole somewhat rounded and higher when planting the lilac, so that the root ball rises about 1/3 part above ground level.
In a
pot or tub
Plant the lilac in a spacious pot that has holes in the base so excessive water can drain away. To ensure good drainage, put a layer of gravel of about +/- 5 cm in the bottom of the pot. Purchase special chalk-based potted plant soil from the garden centre. Remove the pot from the root ball. Plant the lilac so that the root ball is at least 1 cm under the rim of the pot. Fill the rest of the pot with potted plant soil and press down firmly. Then water well.
